North Shelby Fire District Chief Retire
Chief Buddy Tyler started volunteering with fire stations when he was 13 years old in
1978. He was EMT certified when he turned 18, and started working with McNiel Fire District in
1984. Chief Tyler became a licensed paramedic and joined North Shelby. He became battalion
chief in 1995, and took over as fire chief in 2012.
The chief has spent the last 35 years serving the North Shelby area, and Shelby County as
a whole. He has made many improvements within the department to ensure that citizens get the
best service possible, including advancing their Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating from a
Class 4 to a Class 2.
Chief Tyler will be missed throughout the area for years to come. The impacts he has
made will not be forgotten. The Shelby County Legislative Delegation thanks Chief Tyler for his
35 years of service to Shelby County and wishes him well on his future endeavors.
